A week of quotes for Father’s Day. I make no claim to how applicable they are to my father or me as a father. I just found them to be good quotes. >

When I was a boy of 14, my father was so ignorant I could hardly stand to have the old man around. But when I got to be 21, I was astonished at how much the old man had learned in seven years. ― Mark Twain

Ink: Robert Oster Fire and Ice
Paper: Maruman Mnemosyne

Mark Twain is always good for a quote. A friend gifted me a page of Mnemosyne at the Triangle Pen Show. Fire and Ice looks good on this paper but does not show the kind of sheen it does on Tomoe River.

My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me. - Jim Valvano

Pen: Aurora Style M nib
Ink: Robert Oster Hippo Purple
Paper: Paper-Hammer Woodblock Type

I first moved to North Carolina right after Christmas 1982. In the 1983 NCAA Basketball Tournament, Jim Valvano lead the Cinderella team, NC State, to win the championship. That got him noticed. Many of his other actions earned my respect.

At the Atlanta Pen Show I picked up a convertor that properly fit the Aurora. It was ready to ink. I was told Cary, of Fountain Pen Day, had a sample of the new Robert Oster Hippo Purple at the Kenroe table. This is ink is for Squishy Ink’s Kick Starter campaign for the Hippo Noto notebook and pen. Whew! That is a lot of links. The ink is well behaved but I would have hoped for a more purple tint. It seems brown, but a nice brown. Perhaps the final ink will be a little different.

A father is a man who expects his son to be as good a man as he meant to be. - Frank A. Clark

Pen: Carolina Pen Company Aiken
Ink: Seitz-Kreuznech Dark Orchid
Paper: Muji Notebook

I finally wrote dry my Carolina Pen Company Aiken. While contemplating the next ink, I decided to go though my samples. I did not realize I still had some Dark Orchid. I had to use a syringe to fill the convertor but I am fine with that. I love this ink. I can’t believe I have not bought a bottle yet. As soon as my budget recovers from the Triangle Pen Show, I plan to rectify that.

To a father growing old nothing is dearer than a daughter. - Euripides

Pen: Karas Pen Company INK Titanium nib
Ink: Franklin-Christoph Spanish Blue
Paper: Stone Paper Company

This is my first titanium nib. It certainly flexes but you have to put some effort into it. I am still practicing. Most of the a’s look pretty good. The word old on the second line is decent. The color and shading of the Spanish Blue fills the eye with shades of bright blue.

It is a wise father that knows his own child. - Shakespeare

Pen: Lamy AL Star M nib
Ink: Robert Oster Copper
Paper: Clairefontaine Pupitre

This is a nice combination of ink and paper for shading. You can see the Lamy is the Copper Orange model. I like both this RO Copper and the Lamy Copper Orange ink. Just a little different color but great shading in both. The lettering is me mimicking a typeface named always forever.

Wrapping up the Father’s Day quotes with Shakespeare. Hard to to argue with his words.

p.s Write to your father.
