This week contains the anniversary of Willie Nelson’s assets being seized by the IRS. That is long settled, but any excuse to quote Willie works for me.

An order from Jet Pens included five brands of paper new to me. They each get their first use is this week’s thought, pen, ink and paper for the day.

There are more old drunks than there are old doctors, so I guess I’ll have another round.
- Willie Nelson

Pen: Franklin-Christoph 31 CI nib
Ink: Blackstone Barrier Reef Blue
Paper: Maruman Reccer

I got a nice compliment on this one. The lighting is a combination of my halogen desk lamp and a portable Ott Lite. Blackstone Barrier Reef Blue defintely has some great sheen but this lighting really shows it. You have seen this a lot because it is eye droppered in my Franklin-Christoph 31.

The Maruman paper is new. This first use is promising especially with the sheen.

Little things I should have said and done
I just never took the time
You were always on my mind
- Willie Nelson

Pen: Fosfor Tikona B nib
Ink: Diamine Florida Blue
Paper: Apica Grid Notebook

This combination worked well. Diamine inks are always so well behaved and this one shows some nice shading. The broad nib is perfect for this large pen. The step is too pronounced for long writing sessions. It lays down some ink for shorter uses like this quote. My first use of Apica is very positive. You wi be seeing more of this paper.

Love is like a dying ember, only memories remain. Through the ages, I remember blue eyes cryin’ in the rain. - Willie Nelson

Pen: Franklin-Christoph 66 1.5 nib
Ink: Franklin-Christoph Sweet Maroon
Paper: doane paper grid+lines

I have wanted to try doane paper for a long time. At first I thought the lines were too prominent, but after writing they seem ok. The lines+grid seem good for handwriting practice. This one is the current state of my handwriting. Of course the 1.5 nib helps give it some character.

Picking up hookers instead of my pen, I watched the words of my youth fade away. - Willie Nelson

Pen: Danitrio
Ink: I have lost track
Paper: Kyokuto Clean Sheets

The pen and box do not give a model name for this pen. I decided to search and see what it was called. According to Chatterley Luxuries, there was no model name. I think this was the original Danitrio fountain pen. They moved on from this pen and price range to urushi models all priced over $1000. I think this ink is from a batch of samples I friend gave me. Unfortunely I did not log it and have lost track of what ink it is. I should clean it out and put in something else. I’ll have to try more inks and pens on the Kyokuto paper. This one was fine.

This lyric hits me different as I grow older. Even when everything has worked out well, I realize I wasted time and effort at various stages of my life, not just youth,

If you had not’v fallen, I would not have found you. Angel flyin’ too close to the ground. - Willie Nelson

Pen: TWSBI 580 XF nib
Ink: Noodler’s Antietam
Paper: Kokuyo TidbiT

This little notebook is very interesting. It is meant to cut out the little blocks and make a 3-D effect. I need to do some searching for ideas. I am not sure I will use it for more quotes depending on what I find.

p.s Write a note to someone you love.
